Aug. 31-Sept.1, 2012
Celebrated since 1925, this festival offers carnival rides, games, exhibits and a parade. Special activities include mud racing, volleyball tournaments, and a greased-pole climb.

Cape Girardeau, MO
Sept 3, 2012 9 am – 3pm
Labor Day is typically a day of rest, but the soldiers and civilians at Fort D will be busy preparing for fall.  Join local re-enactors as they demonstrate rifle and cannon fire and dutch oven cooking.

St. James, MO

Sept. 5-8, 2012
The event includes, among other activities: a carnival; livestock exhibits; children's games; live music; a wine and beer garden; and vendor booths.  Saturday, a Street Festival in the 100 block of South Jefferson Street, a parade, street market and craft fair.

East Prairie, MO

Enjoy a day of free, old-fashioned family fun. Watch demonstrations of old-time skills such as rope making, weaving, flintknapping and making canvas floorcloths. Discover the exhibits of the Southeast Explorer Mobile Learning Center. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the sounds of bluegrass music played by "Bluegrass Revival." This community tradition features a carnival at Rodeo Grounds, games, beauty pageants, nightly entertainment, lots of food, contests for Little Mr. and Miss Cotton Carnival, and 1 of Missouri's largest parades.
The parade begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the corner of Malone Avenue and Pine; it travels west on Malone Avenue ending downtown.

This is a great way to welcome fall. Take a step into history as you enter a circa 1840s home and farmstead.  Demonstrations, crafts, music, and food that give you reason to spend the entire day.
Demonstrations: blacksmithing; apple butter cooking; candle dipping; basket weaving; cross-cut sawing; woodworking; rope making; and other skills let you put your hands on history and be a pioneer. Take a scenic horse and buggy ride, feed the animals at the barn, and shop from the crafters who create unique handmade items.
All the cabins and buildings are open for a self-guided tour.
The Saxon Lutheran Memorial tells the story of faith through the courageous travels of Saxon immigrants from Germany who made their home here in 1839.
The event is held rain or shine.

This event features crafts, music, a 5K race, beer tasting, and the Taste of Cuba.

  • The debut of Jim Hinckley's Route 66 Encyclopedia and Atlas
  • Trolley tours of the murals on Saturday
  • Apple-butter making Saturday
  • Chili cook-off Saturday
  • Cemetery tours on Sunday 
  • Saturday evening, The Road Crew, a band from Memphis, performs at Belmont Winery, on Route 66.
